We landed in Tahiti July...

We landed in Tahiti July 23 at 5am and booked this tour for a 9am pickup, since our room wasn't available until 3pm anyway, this was a great way to spend the day! I get car sick when I read on my phone for too long, so my husband and I proactively took Dramamine. We sat on benches in the back of the pickup truck until we got off the main road. Once we were officially on the tour– heading toward the center of the island, we were able to stand on the seat cushions and hold on to the metal bars for balance. This was really the best way to see all the views! Note: You will get tossed with the potholes if you stand.

The tour was amazing. It felt like we were entering Jurassic Park. It was so green and the cliffs so tall! We saw so many waterfalls that we lost count. We went on the tour in late July so it was during the dry season, but you could still tell where all the waterfalls occur during the wet season. We spent most of our trip on the water so this was an amazing experience to see the inside of a volcano and see the Tahiti countryside.

Tips: Bring cash for lunch, wear a swimsuit (you will have a chance to swim!), apply sunscreen, bring a towel, if you have water shoes you can bring those (this would have been nice for the swim spot; alternatively you can wear shoes to the water's edge and go in barefoot), and I recommend wearing tennis shoes that can get dirty. Also at the lunch spot, you check out at a register, so don't make our mistake where we sat and waited for the bill for 15 minutes.

Had a wonderful experience on the tour with Eric! He was super informative and friendly. The sights were amazing to see, everything from the plants, trees, birds, mountains, lakes, oh and waterfalls soooo many waterfalls. The road is rough but Eric drove it slow and steady. The restaurant at the half way point is cash only.
Great

Fun tour across the island, unfortunately the restaurant was closed for renovations so we had to stop and pick up lunch to bring. Definitely recommend this if you are staying on Tahiti and have time.

The beauty of the valley was unexpected. Our guide proved to be an excellent driver and we'll informed. We would recommend this tour highly.
A Must-Do Trip
Robert_S, 01-12-2022
Great trip across the interior of the island. Spectacular scenery. A must-do on the island of Tahiti. Road is rough but well-graveled the whole way. Lots of pot holes but driver was good about going slow. Mostly a single lane mountain road over extremely steep terrain. Truck was fairly new and in good condition with padded seats in the bed and an optional rain cover. Some previous negative reviews were obviously city folk with unrealistic expectations. You’ll be glad you took this trip!
We've Looked at Tahiti from Both Sides Now

We crossed the island on this incredible trip on a rainy day after a torrential downpour. The waterfalls were astounding. I wish our talented driver were able to talk to us while he was driving because he supplied lots of information when we were stopped and asked questions. The lunch at the mountaintop restaurant seemed a bit pricey, but it was really good (I had the sashimi). The owner of the tour company was flexible with rescheduling when we missed our pickup time due to HEAVY northbound traffic on the west side of the island (plan lots of extra time if you have to drive). This trip was absolutely terrific and our group of three septuagenarians recommend it. You can do it!
Excellent tour and guide.

We had a great time. Sydney was an excellent tour guide with many interesting stories and facts about the island and culture. High recommendation for the tour and tour guide.
Buckle up

Exciting and interesting! We put our faith in our driver, Eric, and his trusted steed as the journey could not be enjoyed or performed without either.
Unforgettable Tour
Katy_B, 12-01-2023
This tour was amazing! The views are breathtaking! The tour guide was very knowledgable. The roads were a bit bumpy but that’s expected from a rainforest. Unforgettable experience to say the least! A must if limited time on the island.
Amazing view

The views is wonderful and amazing. And you will be enjoying the off-road riding experience if you take this trip. Don’t expect comfort. It would be better to bring your lunch. It takes 6hr.
Magnificent Tahiti, better with sunny weather
Alex_C, 05-06-2022
Glad I did this tour! While visibility was more limited on a rainy day, the sights of the mountains and waterfall of the interior were still amazing. We didn’t swim nor did we visit the archeological sights, possibly due to the rain. I’d recommend wearing a mask to avoid the exhaust while driving on the road.
Beautiful outing, Nature at its finest

There were four couples in our group…2 French and 2 American. Our tour guide, Sidney, spent equal time explaining to both groups in our native tongue. The tour itself was beautiful unbelievable amount of waterfalls seen. It rained on us second half of tour but was still wonderful. We learned about different flowers in the area and Sidney answered any and all questions we had. The restaurant was closed the day of our tour so we were stopped at a market to pick up snacks for a meal. Also there were absolutely no restroom facilities the entire day. That is the only downfall to this tour. Both the other American couple and us were in our 70’s+ and it was a wonderful time. I would not let age stop you from booking this tour. The lack of toilet facilities might. Overall it was a beautiful day. While we did not swim, those that did said it was wonderful. You won’t see anything like this in the rest of Tahiti.
Not for the weary traveller

The waterfalls were beautiful to observe, but the trip was extremely arduous. This made it long and uncomfortable. The restaurant only took cash, no charges. This should have been stated in the listing. We had signed up for an English language tour. The other people on the tour were French speakers with limited English. This hampered our conversations with them. Also, even though the guide Pito was bilingual, he was able to speak to them at greater lengths since that was his primary language. We would have preferred to be with English speakers. If you take this tour, be aware that the roads are very rough.
